How 3D Printing Helps Us Customise Electrical & AV Installs
Every home or building we walk into has its own quirks. Some walls curve where you expect corners, some ceilings drop just slightly too low, and no two installs ever play out quite the same. That’s part of the challenge and the fun.
At Safe n Sound, we’ve been on enough jobs to know that no matter how well you plan, sometimes what you really need is a part that doesn’t exist yet.
That’s where our in-house 3D printer comes in. We started using it to make a few custom mounts here and there. Now it’s part of our everyday workflow. From CCTV brackets to cable clips, if we need it and it doesn’t exist, we make it. Simple as that.
Why We Started Printing Our Own Parts
If you’ve ever had a project slow down because a bracket was the wrong size or a delivery was delayed, you know how frustrating that can be. We’ve been there too. Sometimes the only thing holding up a clean, professional finish is one missing or ill-fitting part.

So instead of waiting, we started designing and printing what we needed. Over time, it became more than a workaround it became part of how we work. With 3D printing, we can react on the spot, adjust to tricky spaces, and keep things moving without sacrificing quality or appearance.
What We Use It For

Here are some of the things we regularly print in-house:
- CCTV Camera Mounts that match the angles and surfaces we’re working with
- Cable Brackets and Clips that keep things tidy and discreet
- Speaker Mounts that fit odd corners or ceiling recesses
- Protective Housings for outdoor gear or busy hallways
- Backplates and Spacers when nothing else fits the spot quite right
- It’s not about reinventing the wheel just making sure it fits properly when we install it.
What This Means for You
If you’re a homeowner or business owner, you probably don’t care whether we used a standard part or printed it ourselves you just want the job done cleanly, on time, and to a high standard.
That’s exactly what this allows us to do:
- No waiting around for a delivery to finish your job
- Components that are made to fit your space, not forced into it
- Clean, tidy installs with less visual clutter
- Durable, job-specific parts that won’t let you down later
- It’s one of those things you might not notice when it’s done right and that’s the point.
What Makes This Different
We know other tradies who do great work but very few are printing their own components in-house. For us, it’s not a flashy feature or something we upsell. It’s just part of how we make sure each job gets done properly, first time.
If that means printing a one-off bracket or a custom cover plate to finish a job the right way, we’re happy to do it. It helps us keep things moving, and it helps you get the cleanest result possible.
Conclusion
Tech in the trades is always evolving, and 3D printing is one way we’re keeping pace not with gadgets for the sake of it, but with tools that solve real problems on real sites.
So if you’ve got a space that’s a bit awkward, or a setup that needs more than just off-the-shelf parts, there’s a good chance we can print what we need to make it work.
